I work on software engineering, with a focus on crowdsourcing in software engineering, empirical software engineering, mining software repositories, and software ecosystems. I use data mining, machine learning, and statistical analysis on historical project data to understand how practitioners use crowd resources such as Stack Overflow and npm — and to build tools that help them use those resources more effectively.

About

Rabe Abdalkareem is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Omar Al-Mukhtar University in Libya. Prior to joining Omar Al-Mukhtar University, he was a tenure-track assistant professor in the School of Computer Science at Carleton University in Canada. Before that, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Software Analysis and Intelligence Lab (SAIL) at Queen's University, Canada.

He obtained his Ph.D. in Software Engineering from Concordia University, supervised by Dr. Emad Shihab and Dr. Juergen Rilling. He received his M.Sc. in Computer Science, also from Concordia University.

His research interests and expertise are in software engineering, with a special interest in crowdsourcing in software engineering (e.g. Stack Overflow and npm), empirical software engineering, mining software repositories, and software ecosystems. In particular, he leverages historical project data and applies data mining, machine learning, and statistical analysis techniques to better understand what and how software practitioners use the crowd, and to build techniques that help them effectively take advantage of these crowd resources.

My research centers on crowdsourcing in software engineering — how practitioners use platforms like Stack Overflow and npm — alongside empirical software engineering, mining software repositories, and the study of software ecosystems. I apply data mining, machine learning, and statistical analysis to historical project data to understand these practices and to build techniques that help developers make better use of crowd resources.
